University of Phayao promotes the development of lychee products in Mae Suk Subdistrict, Mae Jai District, Phayao Province.

On November 25, 2022, Division of Research Management together with MAI committees joins, “Watch, Helps, and Cheer project” which is apart of 1 School, 1 Community Innovation ran by School of Allied Health Science. This project has Dr. Supanika Laldawal, School of Allied Health Science, bethe project leader. The project operates in Mae Suk Subdistrict, Mae Jai District, Phayao Province.

Most people of Mae Suk Subdistrict, Mae Jai District, Phayao Province are agriculture, farming and lychee gardening. Lychee is one of Mae Suk Subdistrict famous products, including Phayao province, where is registered as a geographical indication (GI). Farmers in Mae Suk sell theirlychee in the form of fresh fruit and graded lychee. However, it was found that there was another quality lychee that did not qualify for AA grade, premium lychee, which made it sell at a low price. So farmers in the community will processed lychee products such as lychee cookies, lychee paste, which are mostly made for household consumption and sold in the community at low prices. As a result, farmers can only earn lychee income for 3-4 months a year and lack income after the end of the harvest.

Promoting the development of lychee products, such as packaging development, modernization, and beauty, will added value for quality lychee products that, left over from lychee grading. AA-grade premium, which increases income for the community and encourages the community to earn throughout the year. Therefore, the researchers created this project to develop lychee-based products such as lychee cookies, lychee tea, etc., in order to promote the value addition of quality lychee products left over from premium lychee grading and further entering the community distribution path.
